RICHMOND –

Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace invites consumers to take part in the window-shopping period starting Thursday, October 1. Visit Marketplace.Virginia.gov to browse plans, compare options and see if you qualify for new savings for Plan Year 2027. The new savings begin January 1, 2027.

The Marketplace’s open enrollment period will run from November 1 through January 29, 2027. This is the only time Virginians can enroll in a Marketplace plan or switch plans. After the open enrollment period, only consumers experiencing a qualifying life event (such as getting married or divorced, having a baby, or losing health insurance) may be eligible to enroll.

The open enrollment period is the first chance to secure savings for 2027 through the new Virginia Premium Savings program. Qualifying consumers can lower what they pay for their monthly premium payments by as much as 70%.

“The Virginia Premium Savings program is going to make a meaningful difference for families struggling to afford their Marketplace health coverage,” said Keven Patchett, executive director of the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange, the State Corporation Commission division that oversees the Marketplace.

On average, the new savings program will reduce the monthly cost for a qualifying consumer by between $65 and $90 per person, depending on the household’s size and income.

The Health Benefit Exchange designed the program to maximize the impact of the $150 million state leaders budgeted for the new affordability program. Individuals and families earning between 138% and 250% of the federal poverty level may qualify, according to criteria set by the Virginia General Assembly and Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

Funding for the program will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional eligibility criteria and frequently asked questions about the Virginia Premium Savings program, visit Marketplace.Virginia.gov’s information page.

Also new this year: The Marketplace Consumer Assistance Center is offering extended hours during the open enrollment period.

Call Center representatives will be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon ET. The Call Center will also be open on the first Sunday of the open enrollment period (November 1) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

The Call Center can be reached at 888-687-1501. Free translation services are available.
